3 Reasons to Be Grateful for Your Pearly Whites This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and for most of us, that means there’s one thing in mind – delicious food! This time of year is lauded for all of the tasty, seasonal dishes that are prepared by families across the nation, and it’s pretty easy to feel grateful for all the good things in your life when your belly is full and you’re surrounded by your loved ones! That said, something you should be extra thankful for this year is something that you’ve been with your whole life: your smile! Here are just a few of the many reasons you should show your teeth gratitude this year as you reflect and reminisce around the dinner table.

1. Your Teeth Help You Eat & Speak

It goes without saying that your teeth play a very important role in your daily life: they’re what allow you to eat and speak with ease! And granted that Thanksgiving is a holiday that tends to highlight great food and great conversation, you simply wouldn’t be able to celebrate as intended without a healthy set of pearly whites. When your teeth are healthy and strong, they allow you to eat a nutritious variety of foods, including crisp and raw fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and more. They also help you to properly enunciate sounds and syllables, letting you express your thoughts clearly and fostering meaningful connections with others.

2. A Healthy Smile Saves You Money

When it comes to dentistry, it’s glaringly obvious that it’s easier and cheaper to treat small problems than it is to resolve larger, more complex issues. And unfortunately, it’s those smaller problems being left untreated that cause them to worsen and warrant serious, often costly, treatment. This is why routine preventive care is so important; these visits are normally covered by insurance, meaning they cost patients very little. More importantly, they allow dentists to treat small problems that might otherwise remain hidden. All of this goes to say, staying on top of your smile can easily save you hundreds, if not thousands, in potential dental bills.

3. Good Dental Health Leads to Good Overall Health

While it’s true that healthy teeth allow you to enjoy a hearty diet with all kinds of fruits and vegetables, the impact that your teeth have on your body goes even further. Most people don’t imagine diabetes or heart disease is linked to their smiles, but believe it or not, dental issues like gum disease can actually have a negative impact on your body, potentially triggering issues affecting the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. That’s because your gums provide bacteria access to your bloodstream, which is a superhighway around your whole body. Luckily, you can deny harmful germs access to your body by simply maintaining excellent oral hygiene.
